Unstable Peace

Months after the war in Nagorno-Karabakh left the region ravaged and peace was brokered when Russian peacemakers were deployed in the region the two countries are flexing their muscles again.

Azerbaijani Defense Ministry last week said that it would conduct military drills in unspecified mountainous regions. The drills which began on 15th March will involve 10,000 troops, 100 tanks, drones, aircraft, and missile systems and will last for four days.

In response to this Armenia announced that it too would conduct drills from 16th March to 20th March. The Defense Ministry said the drill would include 7,500 soldiers, 100 tanks and armored vehicles, 300 artillery, antiaircraft systems, and aircraft.

These drills are a show of force and the capability of the country’s armed forces to quickly stand on its feet after a war.
